Healthy Homemade Spelt Bread for Busy Mama’s
We bought our first bread machine about a year ago and I am in love! As a busy mama of 4, I need to be able to feed my family with nourishing home cooked meals, that don’t take hours to prepare. This KBS Bread machine is one of my favorite tools in the kitchen, second only to my beloved Instapot
It was frustrating trying to find a recipe for only spelt flour. I tried many and this is the modified version that works perfect, every single time.
3 Cups white spelt –Sometimes I will use 2 cups White Spelt and 1 Cup Einkorn All Purpose. I have tried this with whole spelt flour. Personally, I do like the flavor but my kids, not so much. I find that the whole grain doesn’t rise as much making for a denser bread. We order ours from our local grocery in the bulk section, but Amazon also carries a good quality one for a decent price from PURITY FOODS
2 tbs almond flour like to throw in a tbs of flax seed and sometimes a tbs of hemp seeds.
You can substitute some of the flour for organic potato flakes, making for a very soft loaf. 1/2 cup substitution.
2tbs oil. Olive, Avocado or grapeseed oil works best.
2 1/2 tbs coconut sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon bread machine yeast. This has to be the bread machine yeast, not active dry.
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup of water
It all goes into the insert together. I like to mix the ingredients together first with my silicon spatula before putting in thebread machine to prevent the flour from poofing in the machine and making a mess in there while it mixes.
Bake on the quick setting which is a little less than 2 hrs
Slather with your favorite cultured butter or slice for sandwiches.
