You are what you eat?
In a ‘nutshell’, yes. At the very least, the energy of the foods you consume enter not just your stomach, but your consciousness as well.
Not that I enjoy being reminded, but back when I worked at a famous American Sports Bar (famous for the pretty girls wearing tight tank tops with large.. smiles) us waitress or rather, models for hire would deliver the food to all guests. The guests would anticipate our arrival to the tables with their food and drinks. But we were just the distributors of the food. We had minimal roles in preparing it.
The line cooks in the back, often listening to less than classy music, greasy in appearance and attitude were responsible for cooking the food. Whatever was in their mind and energy field during the preparation, which I can assure you was not not as clean as FDA standards of commercial kitchen equipment, would transfer into the food.
The customers would surely not be as delighted to have the cooks delivering their plate of “hot wings” as the girls themselves. But do we ever ask ourselves why we consume those preparation’s from someone we would not be as delighted to deliver our food, yet give them the even greater power to cook it without question? If our food looked as greasy and unkempt as most of the line clocks in your favorite restaurants, fast food joints, and prepackaged food, you may have second thoughts about consuming it.
One may ask from where does the energy transfer from. The package? The label? The waitress delivering it? The answer is simple. When food is cooked it always must be heated through the fire element. Whether it be electric or gas all foods must be cooked from heat. The transfer of consciousness gets consumed by the fire element and the fire distributes that energy to the food stuff that is cooked in it.
According to Ayurveda our vitality begins and ends with the fire of digestion. This fire is in the core of our bodies, the stomach. This element of fire, when it is strong, breaks down the food stuff and delivers it to the rest of the body. When the fire is weak, it is unable to deliver the nutrients from the food to the rest of the body. (Read our article on what is Ayurveda)
The fire from the food is transferred to the fire of our digestion that burns into the fire of our consciousness.
This is why mamas home cooked meals are widely accepted as superior and even nostalgic. Mama’s cook with love, most of the time. 😉
